SUMMARY:Nature Journal Club - April Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Let’s nature journal! Practice new techniques\, meet new nature lovers\, and build a deep connection with the nature around you. Everyone is welcome at our Wichita Nature Journal Club\, no matter your skill level or age. \nThe destination for this meetup is a large\, human-made prairie that sits atop the old Emery Landfill. Managed as a remediation site by Boeing\, this prairie is a living experiment in remediation in the heart of Wichita. \nBoeing Program Manager Kathy Beaty reports that sheep and goats are currently grazing/browsing on the property\, and that there are wildflowers blooming after the prescribed burn on cell 3 two months ago! We’ve also been advised not to pet the sheep dog. (He’s working.) \nWhat to expect at Boeing’s Emery Prairie Restoration: \n\nAccessibility: Uneven gravel and prairie. No paved walking paths. They do have a bee lawn that’s more easily traversed than the prairie.\nComfort: bring close-toed shoes\, hat\, sunscreen\, water\, and portable seating if desired.\nPlease use tick protection\, and thoroughly check for ticks after.\nParking / Arrival: You’ll enter the site through a gate and follow the gravel drive to the office building where you’ll park. Please don’t arrive too early\, as the gate will not be open prior to about 10 minutes beforehand.\nThere is bathroom access onsite. Kathy will be there to guide us and answer any questions.\n\nMeetup plan: \n\n9am – Meet at the building inside the site.\n(15 min) Introduction to the site\nDisperse to journal on your own.\n10:15am – Meet up again where we started and share your observations with the group.\n\nWhat is Nature Journaling? \nIt’s slowing down and carefully observing the natural world with pencil and paper. Write\, sketch\, paint\, or diagram whatever you discover\, and by taking the time to observe\, you open up a world of natural wonder. \nLearn more about nature journaling and see examples.
